33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week

The 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation (NDPR) Week comes to the fore in 2011. This will be celebrated on July 17-23, 2011 with the theme "Making the Rights for Filipinos with Disabilities" (Pagsasakatuparan sa mga Karapatan ng mga Taong May Kapansanan). This year's celebration will be highlighted by the conduct of the First Philippine Music Festival for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) on July 23, 2011 at the Skydome, SM North EDSA, Quezon City from 3:00-7:00 p.m.
The celebration aims to:
  1. stimulate awareness on disability issues and concerns that will strengthen the involvement of government and non-government organizations including self-help organizations or persons with disabilities, academe, professional groups and societies, local government units (LGUs), business sector, media and other entities of the society;
  2. serve as the vehicle of information of programs implemented by government and non-government organizations that adhere to the promotion of the inherent rights of persons with disabilities;
  3. encourage the Filipino citizens to take active responsibility on the upliftment of the economic and social conditions of the persons with disabilities; and
  4. develop and strengthen cooperation and partnership between and among various sectors of the society for understanding issues and concerns on disability.
The Department of Education (DepEd), as a member agency of the Governing Board of the National Council on Disability Affairs (NCDA) is enjoined to conduct relevant activities as part of the weeklong celebration.

The First Philippine Musical Festival will perform in the form of musical competition with the following mechanics:
  1. The song must be sung by a PWD who is 15 years old and above and could be sung by himself/herself or by another PWD;
  2. Music must not exceed four (4) minutes;
  3. Music must be anchored on this year's theme;
  4. There should only be one (1) entry per composer;
  5. Lyrics could either be in English or Filipino;
  6. Deadline for the submission of entry is June 17, 2011 in demo tape and the lyrics of the song must be submitted with hard copy;
  7. For contestant with disability that is not obviously manifested such as learning disability, he/she must have documents/evidences for his/her disability; and
  8. The contestants must come from the National Capital Region (NCR), Region III and IV-CALABARZON.
The suggested activities mentioned shall be done at the school or division level with the least class disruption and least expenses policy. All Special Education (SPED) Centers, public and private schools with SPED programs are encouraged to undertake activities relevant to the theme of the celebration.
