It is a constellation in the northern sky. It means “the serpent” in Latin. The constellation is divided into two parts by the snake bearer Ophiuchus:

The constellation represents a giant snake held by the healer Asclepius, which is represented by Ophiuchus.It houses the Eagle Nebula, the large globular cluster Messier 5, the emission nebula IC 4703, Seyfert’s Sextet of galaxies, Hoag’s Object, the Red Square Nebula, and the Serpens South star cluster.
It is the 23rd largest constellation which occupies an area of 637 square degrees. It lies in NQ3, the third quadrant of the northern hemisphere.
It belongs to the Hercules family, along with Aquila, Ara, Centaurus, Corona Australis, Corvus, Crater, Crux, Cygnus, Hercules, Hydra, Lupus, Lyra, Ophiuchus, Sagitta, Scutum, Sextans, Triangulum Australe and Vulpecula.
