cassette will not play when powered up

cassette will not play when powered up I have power for the radio and cd but when I switch to tape it will not run , just the display indicates “TAPE”. The belt drive is not damaged and it seems that the motor will not run . Is there a test I can do on the motor ? ANSWERS:
