My Camera wont turn on after not using for a year

My Camera wont turn on after not using for a year My camera has been sitting in the closest for 8 months to 1 year. I bought this intending to learn it but never had the time. I don’t want to mess anything up. Do I just change the battery on the bottom? Thanks
