There are a number of things that can go wrong with a zipper. Before you get worried, check the zipper for debris or dirt, cleaning and lubricating a zipper can work wonders. I have done many of my own repairs and in the old days (late 70's early 80's) made most of my own Gore-Tex and pile clothing. I also have had Patagonia replace a fair number of zippers (up to three on one jacket and two on a pile vest, plus a few others). I have had no problem with them fixing their products at all. At this point, some of my repairs are easier to do myself since 1) the piece is so old and beat up, it isn't worth the price of mailing to Patagonia, but I still use it; 2) it is cheaper to buy a zipper and spend an hour replacing it than sending it back. I'm sure Patagonia means well, and I don't expect Patagonia to be responsible for fixing geat that I trashed, or that I can fix myself for $5. However, these tweets and ifixit website imply that I should be responsible for gear repairs based on the premise that I could jury-rig a repair in the mountains. Let's face it though: if I pay $500 for a ski jacket and the zipper breaks, Patagonia needs to step up and hold up its end of the customer satisfaction bargain and fix it for me. Sorry, Patagonia!
