What does it mean when my xbox 360 has 3 red rings?

What does it mean when my xbox 360 has 3 red rings? xbox 360 was playing games then all the sudden froze. it did this twice so i didnt play for a few days. then when i went to turn it on again 3 of the red rings turned on. the top left, bottom left and bottom right. what is wrong with my xbox 360?
