Defrosting on and off high temps then cool again

Defrosting on and off high temps then cool again Ok my GE GFSS6KKYCSS model, Compressor turns off or i do not hear the fridge running and the temp in fridge and freezer goes up, then comes back on to the temperature it was set at 34 and -2 freezer. When compressor off temp in fridge goes to 40. Is it working proper or I got a problem.
