How do I connect iPod Classic 1st Gen to Windows 10 PC?

How do I connect iPod Classic 1st Gen to Windows 10 PC? I have a couple dozen iPod first gens, and need to test them for my job. I have a firewire cable and a firewire wall charger. I also have a firewire to USB adapter but when I plug in the iPod to my PC a message comes up saying it shorted out. How do I connect iPod Classic 1st gen to my PC?? answers:
