Life, but no iPod!

Life, but no iPod! My iPod will sort of light up, it just always says do not disconnect, and there appears to be nothing going on... what should I do? I do not even know how to open it up, let alone what to do once in there. Please, I would forever worship whoever can help me! ANSWERS:
