Speaker sound fades in and out.

Speaker sound fades in and out. The sound frequently cuts to only the tweeter playing music very softly. If I hit the back component plate that houses the volume knobs, power plug-in, input/output, etc. it seems to sound normal again. Anyone know why? ANSWERS:
