The picure appears on the screen in brief flashes
The device is an LG 47LB630V television. The picture appears on the screen as brief flashes at about 2-3 second intervals, between which the screen is dark. Sound comes normally without any cutting or fading. The remote control can be used to turn the tv on and off, but cannot make the tv change channel. What can I do to get the tv to work normally? I have tried disconnecting the power supply and re-connecting it, this made no difference.

@allangriffin55 this is of course a belated answer. This could be a power board issue or a bad backlight array (my first suspect). For that you will have to take the back of your TV off and look at all the boards. Check for obvious damage like scorched looking components, domed or leaking capacitors etc. Check the connectors on the backlight arrays to see if they are seated properly.
