Why is the top half of my screen black?
How do I repair this problem?

"Without the make and model of your set, I can not state for sure the problem or the solution. In general, flat screen TVs have back lights that use either CFL or LED. These tend to run horizontally behind the screen to provide the light required to see the picture. If you have a dark area, it is possible that the back lights for that portion of hte screen no longer function. It is also possible that the t-con board or main board has failed as well.
In order to properly diagnose this problem, please update this with the make and model. If possible, posting a photo showing the problem would help as well. This is a start. If you feel confident in opening the back of the set, post photos of the boards inside the set as well.
