Why is the volume too low?

The iPod seems to work but it has no volume, or very little.

try another headset, try if the volume is also low when play music via dock connector and at last check the volume preset in the configuration. If that doesn't works it seem that the logic board is damaged. If the playback if normal via dock connector it seems that the headphone jack is damaged.
