"1. An architect designs a rectangular flower garden such that the width is exactly two-thirds of the length. If 290 feet of antique picket fencing are to be used to enclose the garden, find the dimensions of the garden. 2. A flower bed is in the shape of a triangle with one side twice the length of the shortest side, and the third side is 27 feet more than the length of the shortest side. Find the dimensions if the perimeter is 171 feet. 3. A lawn is in the shape of a trapezoid with a height of 40 feet and bases of 50 feet and 150 feet. How many bags of fertilizer must be purchased to cover the lawn if each bag covers 2400 square feet?"

"1.) Rectangular Perimeter:

2L + 2W = P

Current width

W = 2/3L

Solve for length:

Substitute W

2L + 2(2/3L) = 290

2L + 4/3L = 290

Multiply both sides by 3

6L + 4L = 870

10L = 870

L = 87

Solve for width:

Substitute L

W = 2/3(87)

W = 58

Answer: Dimension of the garden is 87ft x 58ft

2.) Let x = length of the shortest side of the triangular flower

2x = length of the second side

x + 23 = length of the third side

Perimeter = 167

Solve for x:

x + 2x + x + 23 = 167

4x + 23 = 167

4x = 144

x = 36

x = 36

2x = 72

x + 23 = 59

Answer: The length of three sides are 36ft, 72ft and 59ft."
