Magma is an extremely hot liquid and semi-liquid rock which is located under the surface of the Earth. Much of the mantle of the earth consists of magma, in which it can push through holes or cracks in the crust, causing a volcanic eruption.
Magma that flows or erupts onto Earth’s surface is called lava.TypesThere are three types, namely:
Basaltic magmaThis type is high in iron, magnesium, and calcium but low in potassium and sodium. It ranges in temperature from about 1000 degrees Celsius to 1200 degrees Celsius or 1832 degrees Fahrenheit to 2192 degrees Fahrenheit.Andesitic magmaThis magma has moderate amounts of minerals found in basaltic magma, with a temperature ranging from about 800 degrees Celsius to 1000 degrees Celsius or 1472 degrees Fahrenheit to 1832 degrees Fahrenheit.Rhyolitic magmaThis magma is high in potassium and sodium but low in iron, magnesium, and calcium and its temperature range from 650 degrees Celsius to 800 degrees Celsius or 1202 degrees Fahrenheit to 1472 degrees Fahrenheit
