SENPAI MEANING – In this article we are going to talk about the meaning of Senpai in Tagalog and some example sentences.Senpai is a Japanese word for “teacher” or somebody older than you. Furthermore, it could also be translated as “master”. Usually, it’s used in the context of martial arts.
In Tagalog, it can be translated as “kuya“. However, in most cases, Senpai is used to describe somebody older in a respectful manner. In that context, you could also use the word “Ma’am or Sir”.In a school context, there’s Ate or Kuya for informal settings or people of a higher grade level than you. It’s worth noting that Ate/Kuya isn’t an exact equal of senpai because it’s a term that’s used in a variety of contexts, not just at work, school, or in organizations.
Manang/Manong is a term for persons who are older than your Ate/Kuya and whom you do not know or are unfamiliar with (usually merchants or service workers that you interact with). In Tagalog, this is not used among relatives. Although not exact, “exactly as old or older than your parents” is considered old enough for Manong/Manang. Some people may find Manang/Manong disrespectful because it suggests age.
