Why won't my washer start?

My washer will not start! It all lights up but will not start when the start button is pressed? I have tried to unplug it and it still won't work?

"If the lid switch is defective, your washer can't spin and may not function at all. The switch is inside the washing machine main housing near the door frame. Often you have to raise or open the top or front of the washer to get to the switch. If it's defective, you need to replace it.

Some machines have a special lid-switch fuse near the lid switch, inside the control panel. If this fuse blows, the unit won't fill with water until you replace the fuse."

Take the lid off the top and check the 3 connectors to the door switch assembly. One assembly functions the door latch as well as the black push pin at 2 o'clock. Make sure all three female connectors are fastened within the corresponding male connectors of the door switch assembly.

My washer is about 12 years old and I found that the door hinge was bent down about a half inch. When being closed the little mating button with the button on the latch switch was busted off due to lifting to close the door. At my local appliance store the part is $105.00, I got a used one for $50.00. Besides replacing the part I partially opened the door and pulled up on the door until the hinge was straight and the buttons properly mated again. Thanks for the help, my budget wasn't including replacing a new set of washer and dryer and that is what I was being faced with.
