My controller doesn't work with batteries

My controller doesn't work with batteries My controller works but only with the USB cable plugged in. It will not work/turn on with batteries in. I have tried new batteries, clean metal conact in controller, updated via usb but still wont work with batteries just cable.

It could be a broken wire or solder joint to the battery port
