Dummy light for "brake" won't turn off on 1997 Chevrolet Malibu?

Dummy light for "brake" won't turn off on 1997 Chevrolet Malibu? i have 97 malibu, 4cyl. "brake" light on in instrument panel. Parking brake is off . fluid is full. brakes are fairly new and not worn thin... Why is dummy light staying on and what are my options for fixing it.....
