How can I repair my old Sanyo tv ds19590?

I have an old sanyo tv which worked great until recently, when the picture reduced down to a single line across the screen. I banged the side (old-school style) and it worked. Now it doesn't and I don't want to break the thing further. I know it needs to be replaced, but as a single mom and student with no help, I can not afford to. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
