Sony KD65X750H showing horizontal lines when playing VHS and DVD’s.

Sony KD65X750H showing horizontal lines when playing VHS and DVD’s.

BRAND NEW Sony 65” has great picture with cable or Hulu via HDMI. When playing commercial VHS tape or commercial DVD (also on homemade VHS/DVD’s), horizontal & pulsating lines show up. Using 75 ohm cable from wall to cable box to combo VHS/DVD to tv. Any suggestions how to fix? Thanks much! “D”

"Hi @siriuseden ,

Can you try it with another TV to prove it is the TV and not the player?

What is the model number of the VHS/DVD player?

Since you're using TV co-ax input from player try rescanning for the ""TV channel"" used between the player to the TV.

Do the VHS/DVD player menu screens show the same lines etc as a dvd or tape

If the TV has the options for ""cable channels"" (select antenna or cable option in TV settings?) can you view the cable TV channels OK when using the ""Antenna"" input option and not HDMI?

Just trying to eliminate things

Hi @siriuseden

Apologies. I got it mixed up and thought that you were watching cable TV channels via HDMI from the combo unit and not direct on the coax input via the combo unit.

If the menus from the combo unit are clear this means that the connection between the combo unit and the TV is OK and the signals between the two are sent/received OK

Strange that the combo menus are viewed OK and not the tapes and discs.

Wondering if there is a compatibility (firmware?) problem with the TV as looking at this page in the combo user manual (see Connection > TV system) it states that titles recorded as NTSC (which I assume you have where you are) are played as PAL 60. This is to allow the combo unit to work with either a NTSC TV or a PAL TV. I realize that you said that your other TV worked OK with playing of tapes and discs

As a test can you connect the combo unit to the TV via HDMI cable or AV Composite cable (yellow/red/white) or Component video cable (red/blue/green + red/white - not sure if your TV has this last option though) and check the picture and sound from a tape or disc?

If that works OK it may be a problem with the TV interpreting the PAL 60 signal being sent from tapes and discs by the combo unit. This is only conjecture on my part but I suppose you have to start somewhere in trying to find out why it is happening.

Check that the firmware in the TV is updated to the latest version.

If the TV needs updating, if possible try the network connection option first as it will automatically detect that the firmware is the correct one for the TV.

Be aware if you decide to try manually updating via USB to ensure that the firmware is for the exact TV model number as installing the wrong firmware can “brick” a TV. Search for Sony KD65X750H firmware or Sony KD65X750H support and make sure that you end up on the same page just in case I got it wrong ;-)"
