Sound is low and faint

Sound is low and faint I have just been given a set of Sony headphones model number MDR-XB450AP. When plug them into my computer and my iPod touch they work fine but when I plug the extension cable that I have the volume on headphone is low and faint. I know the extension cable work alright with other heads. ANSWERS:
