Universal Blu-ray Player no longer plays any DVDs

I’ll try to explain my weird situation as thoroughly as possible. A couple years ago I got a very expensive region-free Blu-ray/DVD player from an odd brand called iVid. After about a year, it started getting finicky with DVD discs. Now to rule out one thing… all of my discs are scratch/smudge free, since I actually take proper care of my belongings. The player is at the point now where it rarely ever plays a DVD. I might get lucky if I open and close the tray about a hundred times. Those 99 other times, I hear several faint clicks and the display keeps saying “no disc”. Yet Blu-ray discs play flawlessly. I have no comprehension of hardware. I’m assuming that there are separate optical lenses (laser assemblies?) for both Blu-ray and DVD discs, and that my DVD lens is shot. Since it plays Blu-ray discs without a problem, I’d rule out motor issues. Advice would be greatly appreciated. I do not want to shell out another $140 to those iVid jerks that sold me my lemon.
