Vizio E70-F3 displays logo, then shuts off, constant cycle

A friend had a visio E70-F3 that just started continuously power cycling… power light comes on, logo shows in middle of screen, logo disappears, powers off, repeat. He tried a hard power cycle, no luck, so he spend $$$ on a new TV,… I took his vizio, replaced the power board thinking that had to be it. No luck, same behavior. I’ve read I may have to replace either the TCON or Main board. Has anyone seen this behavior? Does anyone know which board might be the cause? TCON is $15 :)… I already unnecessarily replaced the power board. Any chance I replace both boards and it still doesn’t work? I don’t want to sink too much into this, but if I can get a 70” vizio for $100, it’s worth it.

ANSWERS:

"Hi,

Sounds like it is bootlooping.

Getting the logo showing indicates that things are mostly working OK i.e. screen, tcon, power so the problem could be corrupted firmware on the mainboard.

Try updating the firmware via a USB flashdrive and check if that resolves the problem.

Verify that I have linked the correct firmware for your model as installing the incorrect firmware can brick a TV.

It may not work because with some brands (I don’t know about Vizio though) you cannot reinstall the same version firmware you can only update if the update file is a later version than what is already installed in the TV.

You have replaced the power board and the tcon is the interface between the mainboard and the screen. Usually if the tcon were faulty there would be problems with the picture (distorted, lines etc or no picture at all) but there would be audio if a signal source was connected so try replacing the mainboard"
