PhilHealth Coverage of LGU-Sponsored Families Extended to End of First Quarter CY 2012

The health insurance coverage of around 5 million families identified and provided by their Local Government Units (LGUs) and /or sponsors under the Sponsored Program in CY 2011, whose expiry date was December 31, 2011, is extended to March 31, 2012 at no cost to the LGU. This development will ensure continued health insurance coverage for over 10 million poor and low-income families under the Sponsored Program of the National Health Insurance Program (NHIP), including the 5.2 million poor families determined as poor by the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR) of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) who had also been provided health insurance coverage with National Government funding.

Sponsored Program members whose coverage will be renewed for two years by their LGUs/Sponsors on or before June 30, 2012, shall be provided the additional privilege of another three-month extension of validity date to June 30, 2012. Thus, the effective premium rate for a two-year enrolment shall be P1,800.00. The LGUs/Sponsors may renew the coverage of the same number of enrollees as they have sponsored in CY 2011.

For LGUs/Sponsors who intend to provide coverage to new or additional SP members for two years, and commit to do so on or before June 30, 2012, the premium of P2,400.00 for two years shall apply.

All these initiatives will ensure the continued health insurance coverage of over 10 million poor and low income families until December 31, 2013.
