Philippine Contingent To Haiti Arrives After Tour of Duty

CAMP GENERAL EMILIO AGUINALDO, Quezon City – The 12th Philippine Contingent to Haiti (PCH) returns to the country and was received in an awarding and arrival ceremony held today at the General Headquarters (GHQ) Canopy Area.
Col. Errol V. Gironella headed the 155-man contingent, eight of whom were military officers.

The members of the 12th PCH were awarded the United Nations Service Medal, for their exceptional performance consistent with the peacekeeping mission of the United Nations in Haiti.

The Acting Deputy Chief of Staff, Maj. Gen. Emmanuel T. Bautista represented the AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eduardo S.L. Oban Jr. as the keynote speaker. "You have shown the world that the Filipino soldier does not discern among nationalities, nor is his compassion restricted by territories; that the Filipino soldier goes where he could contribute to make lives better for ordinary folks, shielding them from the trauma of armed violence and instability,” Bautista said.

Sending troops to the UN is part of the AFP’s commitment to the United Nations aim for global peace and nation-building efforts. As a signatory to the UN Chapter, the Philippines remains staunch at its commitment to the promotion of international peace and stability.

Earlier this year, the 13th Philippine Contingent to Haiti and the 15th Philippine Contingent to Liberia were farmed out as new peacekeepers in their respective areas of responsibility.

The AFP has been sending troops to Haiti in the virtue of the U.N. Stabilization Mission in MINUSTAH (Mission des Nations Unies pour la stabilisation en Haiti) Headquarters since April 2004.

"You have shown that, as much as we are dedicated to serving the Filipino people, we also share in the aspiration of all peoples for global peace. You have shown that we are responsible members of the family of nations and we stand ready to extend our assistance to other countries in times of need,” Maj. Gen Bautista addressed the troops. - https://www.affordablecebu.com/
