How much ram is enough?

How much ram is enough? I have a Dell Inspiron one2305, about to upgrade to an SSD and was wondering if I should upgrade ram to. Has 6G of DDR3 ram right now. Only used for average home computing. Is just a bit slow. If so How much and what type?
