No sound when I plug in my earphones

My Dell N5030 has no sound when I plug in my earphones. The speakers work fine, they shut off when I plug in my earphones , just no sound in the earphones. I am running Windows 10. I have looked for device manager can't find it.

Do the headphones work in other devices? There may be a problem with the headphone port itself. Try other headphones or auxiliary cords. Since the speakers turn off when you plug in, there is most likely a problem with the hardware.

"Hi,

Try pressing Win Key and x key on the keyboard together. You should see Device Manager link listed among other links on left hand side. Alternatively select the Control Panel link (same two key press) and then select the Device Manager icon.

Dell does not support your laptop for Win 10, so there are no drivers for it. However here is a link that has Win 10 drivers for your laptop, (their drivers have worked for people I know - not your model but still worked). Scroll down to find the Audio drivers, install them and see if that solves it for you, in case it was a hardware/software incompatibility problem. If it doesn't you can always revert back to what you had.

"Have you tried plunging in your earphones into another device like an iPod, mp3 player, or stereo system to see if they work? If they don't work then the problem is with your earphones and not your computer. Also I would try to connect a different set of earphones or speakers to the earphone jack on the computer to test the jack out to see if it works. If there is no sound then the problem would most likely be with your computers earphone jack.

To get to Device Manager in Windows 10 to check the sound drivers, right click the Start button and click on Device Manager. Double click on sound, video and game controllers, right click on each device and click properties and make sure all the drivers are working properly."

Try hard booting it. I know it’s not the best thing for the computer but it worked for me.

What worked for me is by going to Device Manager, then under Sound, video and game controllers, select Intel® Display Audio and disable device. Once I did that the sound came through immediately.
