Why are my Pictures are blurry at when taken at close range?

Why are my Pictures are blurry at when taken at close range? Whenever I try to zoom in to take a picture of a interesting bug or flower, the camera is incredibly blurry and focuses on the background. What am I doing wrong?

Does this camera have a macro mode setting? The icon is usually a flower or something similar.
