How to remove the smell of mothballs

When I moved into the unit I am living in I noticed an odd smell coming from the dishwasher. A friend of mine said it smelled like moth balls. we took the grates out to find 3 moth balls in the bottom of the machine. I have run the dishwasher 5 times and I can not get the smell out. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get the Oder out.

"Mothballs are a pesticide product that contain either naphthalene or paradichlorobenzene as active ingredients. Both of these chemicals are toxic fumigants (which means they volatilize into the air) and must be present in high concentrations to be effective. This is the problem.

Many pesticides, especially organophosphate insecticides (e.g. malathion, diazinon, chlorpyriphos), can be neutralized with household bleach. Remember that bleach can be hazardous, and it is also a pesticide.

I'd try pouring in about 1/4 a gallon of bleach, let it sit for six hours then run the washer. Repeat four times.

Then scratch and sniff."

"@bootsers ,Millie, Run a couple hot cycles using 2 cups of vinegar each time, this should dissipate the odor. Link below will also help, telling how to use vinegar and baking soda to remove the odor. Good luck.

I hope this helped you out, if so let me know by pressing the helpful button.
