My 2009 ford focus was easy. Key in the ignition and turn it from 0 to 3 but without starting the engine 3 times quickly. It will then beep. Then u can press lock on your fob and both keys will work.

"It's in the owners manual.

Turn key from 0 to 2 four times in quick succession. You will hear a beep. Press any button on fob. And hey presto (doesn't actually say hey presto, but it should)"

turn key from 0 to ignition 4 times in quick succession, hear a beep, hold any button on the remote for 5 seconds  and your should hear another beep, that's the key programmed, if you have more than one remote press the next remote in quick succession after the first one, they hold up to 4 remotes on memory. If after turning the key you don't hear a beep then the key needs to be programmed with the ecu via cables and extra equipment.  failing this disconnect battery for half and hour and repeat, failing this try the link jayeff posted. the key also has a part inside the remote which wears out over time in which case you need to replace the key.

I sat for ages figuring this out... For my fob with doors closed and both front seatbelts plugged in I have to turn the key two clicks to position II four times in six seconds and then turn it to position O. What it didn't tell me was that I had to start at position O, turn the key to position II then back to position O... four times in six seconds, so you end on position O as it says in the handbook... Then you get your ding dong beep noise and press a button on all keyfobs to program.

Got to do it 8 times in 5 seconds to make it work on my 2011
