Why does my Epson Stylus Photo printer only print black?

Why does my Epson Stylus Photo printer only print black?

My Epson Stylus Photo 1400 printer only prints black. I have installed new ink cartridges and the ink monitor shows that ink is being used from all six cartridges, but the output is only black.
