Why is my Briggs & Stratton 675 series mower engine running too fast

Why is my Briggs & Stratton 675 series mower engine running too fast

Part way through my last mowing session, the engine suddenly started running at high revs, the accelerator lever does not alter the engine speed even though it works correctly. Is there an adjustment screw on the carburettor? Or is it a more serious issue.
