Why is my iPod stuck on the "HP dectect test" screen?

Why is my iPod stuck on the "HP dectect test" screen? I was following ifixit steps to check the functionality of the hold button (diagnostic). The hold button is working fine (0 and 1). But now my screen is stuck on HP Detect : 0. It says press menu to continue, but when I press menu nothing happens. I have also tried pressing menu twice and several other combinations...

"If it's not continuing, it didn't pass the headphone (HP) test. Ipods have a little detector that stops the ipod if a headphone isn't detected; it'll pause the song if the headphone jack is removed.

You might want to disassemble it and replace the headphone jack. If that doesn't work, it's probably a bad board."

I got mine to go to the next stage by clicking the hold switch on and then off.
