4 generation nano need the board for the ear buds plugin?

4 generation nano need the board for the ear buds plugin? do i need a motherboard because my both my ear earbuds dont work when plugin to the 4 generation ipod nano i tryed other earbuds and tryed them on other ipods and both the ear buds worked? ANSWERS:
