breaker switch breaks in main panel.

breaker switch breaks in main panel.

All functions on the panel work, but when i set time and power applies the circuit breaker brakes. I have reset it three times and it does the same thing. Could this be a door latch problem? I have also checked the outlet with a plug in tester and it says it’s correct.

ANSWERS:

"Hi @hecermer,

What is the model number of the microwave oven?

If you are only adjusting the cooking time duration and the power setting and not actually starting the microwave oven, then it appears to be a problem with the control board or the wiring connected to the control board e.g. relays operating to switch the appropriate connections to regulate the amount of power required by the magnetron circuit. etc

If you mean that you set the time and turn on the microwave oven then it could be a number of things. The magnetron, the turntable motor, the fan etc

The door interlock switches only switch the power to the oven’s other components for them to operate and sometimes if the interlocks are faulty allow them to operate when they shouldn’t so it may be them but then you would suspect that the breaker might trip when the door is first shut

In either event the oven would have to be opened and further tested to determine what the problem actually is.

Be safety aware when working in a microwave oven. The HV capacitor can store >6000V DC for months, even if the oven hasn’t been connected to the power for that length of time. This voltage can seriously injure you if you don’t know what you’re doing. The HV capacitor needs to be correctly discharged as soon as it can be accessed after the oven’s cover has been removed and before commencing any other work inside the oven.
