Clicking the center button doesn't work any more

Clicking the center button doesn't work any more I can turn my ipod on and scroll up and down and even turn it off but the center click will not let me select a menu item such as shuffle - it works fine when controlled by my car stereo but clicking the center button just doesn't work any more - can this be fixed easily ANSWERS:
