Why can’t I get the nut on the receiver to thru firewall to turn?

Why can’t I get the nut on the receiver to thru firewall to turn? I have a 96 chevy c 1500 that I'm changing the compressor and receiver/dryer. I can not break loose the nut on the coolant tube going thru the firewall? Do you have any suggestions?
