Why does the control go to "add a garmet" and then the cycle stops.

Why does the control go to "add a garmet" and then the cycle stops. My Kenmore machine was working fine. I started a new load and after 2 minutes the "add a garment" light went on and the cycle stopped. I can not get the machine to cycle now. ANSWERS:
