Why is my Panasonic Viera having intermittent garbled sound?

How can I fix the intermittent garbled sound on my Panasonic Viera?

ANSWERS:

"Hi,

More information is needed about the TV setup to narrow down where and what the problem is.

a) What is the model number of the TV?

b) Is the signal source an antenna connected to the TV’s coax input or a ""box"" of some sort connected to a HDMI input on the TV?

If the signal source is from an antenna go to c) below

If the signal source is from a ""box"", connected to the TV via a HDMI connection, try connecting a dvd player (or any other device that has a HDMI output e.g. a laptop computer) and check if the audio is OK or not when using it.

If it is OK when using the dvd player, power cycle the “box” and check it that resolves the issue. Also check if it has the latest firmware installed. Usually there is an online “software” (or firmware) update option in the user settings menus in these devices. If it is determined that the distorted audio is coming from the “box”, what is the make and model number of the “box”?

If the distorted audio is still there when using a dvd player also connected via HDMI, then try connecting it (or the “box”) via Component video (red/blue/green + red/white cables) and check the audio. The difference here is that HDMI is a digital signal and the Component video is an analogue signal and it uses different sections of the mainboard in the TV to the digital signal.

c) Is the audio coming from the TV speakers or an external sound system connected to the TV?

If an external audio system how is it connected to the TV? Have you tried listening to the audio when it is switched back to the TV speakers to check if it is OK or not?

If the audio is from the TV speakers, does the TV have an earphones connection and is the audio also distorted when listening to them?"
