Department of Energy approves extension of Coal Operating Contract 41 of PNOC Exploration

PNOC Exploration Corporation, a mining and oil company in the Philippines, announces that the Department of Energy (DOE) recently approved its request to extend its Coal Operating Contract (COC) 41 located in Malangas, Zamboanga Sibugay for another 18 years.
PNOC Exploration Corporation's COC 41 was awarded on August 14, 1980 and will expire on August 13, 2012.

With this 18-year extension, COC-41 will be current up to August 13, 2030. This will give COCO 41 a 50-year contract term, which is allowable under the Philippine Constitution.

The extension will allow PNOC EC to fully assess its potential and increase current coal production to supply the requirements for the proposed 100-MW coal-fired power plant scheduled to be put up by 2015.
