POLLY – The most popular of Alocasias is the Polly compact hybrid. It has distinct, large, dark-green leaves shaped similarly to arrows and shields. In contrast, thick white veins run throughout the leaves as well.
Furthermore, this species can grow up to 18-inches tall and wide with the leaves growing up to 16″ long. Luckily, due to its popularity, you won’t have any trouble finding these in local stoors.
FRYDEK – The Alocasia micholitziana or “Frydek” is commonly called the Green Velvet. Surprisingly, this variety of Alocasia is similar to Polly’s. However, it has distinct characteristics that make it hard to find.
Aside from having the same size and leaf shape and color, Frydek’s have deep-green leaves with white, prominent veins that produce a velvety side to the plant.
Alocasia zebrina – The leaves of Alocasia zebrina are arrow or shield-shaped, but they lack the unique white veins that run through them. Instead, the stilt-like stalks are covered with yellow and black zebra print-like markings, giving the plant its name and a striking, eye-catching appearance.
