Update: successfull upgrade. The issue was new 4K display had a broken EDID. After flashing the correct one it works perfectly. Recomended bolt-in upgrade!

"regarding battery issue - predator has a mini switch from the the back cover side. while its open - it will start on AC power only. check your board - it may have the same switch.

regarding your cable - google which cable 4k model should use and buy the exact cable which fits your model.

regarding your display - the chance its a broken EDID is very low. also it was impossible to reflash that with i2c tools like its usually possible (its possible to read but not to write it) so I had to take it to a good service in my city (I was not able to find a proper one from the first attempt - some people do not realize EDP has no direct connection to EDID EEPROM and it took some time to find a guy who had a service manual access and an appropriate tool to do that)."

"Your current FullHD cable is 40 pin (motherboard side) => 30 pin (display side)

You need a 40=>40 one, part number is 50.Q04N5.015 - you can get that from amazon, ebay or... I've just ordered mine in the nearest laptops repairing workshop.

Regarding panels - BEWARE OF THE FAKE AUO panels! Ask seller if its a genuine AUO. Mine has awfull colors, I'm looking where to get the original one. I've borrowed one from my friend's alienware - it looks perfect.

Regarding flashing - you don't need that, my panel had a defective EDID. Its just a bolt-in upgrade.

Also there is a compatible model from Sharp - SHP1446. Alienware owners say AUO is better."

"For those who're going to do this upgrade and buy AUO109B display from Ebay:

Check this - there are fake AU Optronics displays on the market these days.

Always ask seller if their displays are original AUO."
