mac wont boot into recovery mode!

I’ve had issues with my Mac and I tried to boot into recovery mode but it won’t voot it shows a circle with a line through it.

This can happen when the unit has a hard time recognizing the system, the system is to high for this model. It can happen when the drive has not been picked as the start up device.
