Why is it turning off to prevent overheating?

Why is it turning off to prevent overheating?

My nikon Coolpix l31 is turning off to prevent overheating in under 30 seconds of having turned it on. This started about a week after I got it. Haven't used it much since, got it about 2 years ago.
