Has anyone attempted to separate LCD from Glass Digitizer?

Has anyone attempted to separate LCD from Glass Digitizer?

I know its been discussed already, so my question is Simple. I thought someone who had replaced the whole piece may have tried to see whether it was possible or not to separate the LCD from the broken glass.

Migue Ford, I don't think that all the great people on here who specialize in the iPhone repair "like to go the easiest and safest way." I bet some have even tried it and probably bend or destroyed their LCD's. Nobody said that it can not be done, all everyone says that it is difficult and cumbersome with a high degree of failure. Just because you can buy the piece separate does not mean that it is meant to be repaired like that. But you might just be on to something here and if you already have the pieces, why not give it a try and let us all know so that we can learn something new. Good Luck to you....

"Hi, I repair iphones, ipods, and many other devices for a living. I literally have a box stacked full of the broken lcd/digi's that we have repaired. We have tried many solutions and suggestions to separate them. Heat gun, oven, ect. It CAN be done, but the chances of you succeeding are very slim. The biggest problem is that your applying alot of heat to the LCD, and if you are to succeed in separating them the life span/integrity of the LCD is greatly shortened during the process.

Not to discourage you but thought id give my input. The LCD and Digitizer are fused together during the manufacturing process, the best method i have found is a heat gun and a low setting. It takes a lot of patience as they will not quickly separate. I start in a corner of the LCD with the thinnest blade you can find. Good luck, hope this helps.

It is possible to separate the screen from the lcd. All you need is a lcd separating machine.

"dont do it, i tried last night and destroyed my digitizer!

the entire ipod is fragile and can be destroyed very easily. I took mine completely apart last night before is discovered I could not separate the glass from the digitizer. I ordered a new assembly on eBay and I am returning the lcd screen i bought. It was a waste of money. upon putting it back together i destroyed my digitizer from trying to heat the glass off. buy a whole assembly!"

"Its possible - Here's how we do it.

*This is more for repair stores, as the machines to remove the lcd from the digitizer is expensive*

stick it in the oven, cant remember the temp think its about 280 C or somewhere close, it should be left for just long enough to melt the glue that holds them together but not long enough to melt the plastic, oh one tip, you may need to take the silver backing off, be very very careful with all steps, and dont forget its hot! you should then be able to slip in a very slim tool between lcd and digitiser, get any glue off the lcd while its hot as it will be almost impossible otherwise! but for what you are saving in money it is alot of hassle!
