@oldturkey03 How you do this on a Mac that does not see an iPhone 3G?

"Here is a direct download of old iTunes directly from Apple.

What you want to do is find an old version around 9 or 10-ish.

Right-click the installer, and select compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Install using Compatibility mode.

Right-Click the iTunes icon and also set that to run with Compatibility mode for Windows 7.

Here is a little about the history of the device.

Original firmware 1.0 had nothing but basic functionality.

The 5 apps such as calculator was a package add-on of $25.

The next firmware update was another $10.

The 3rd and last charged firmware update was $10, and included the $25 5-app package.

I think if you have never purchased those, you can reflash an old firmware, but it will not have the 5-app package."

If you can, try a mac or windows 7 computer. Also, you could have a faulty USB port on your computer. It could also be a problem with the dock connector.

"You have to download an older version of itunes. First go to applications and uninstall these programs in the following order:

iTunes

QuickTime

Apple Software Update

Apple Mobile Device Support

Bonjour

Apple Application Support (if you have it)

make sure to remove them in that order. Then, restart your computer. Download the last compatible version here:

64-bit

OR

32-bit

http://www.filehorse.com/download-itunes...

find out what version of windows 8 you have first, 64 bit or 32 bit. Install that one, and restore your ipod"

"Hi:

After spending most of a day upgrading my PC to Windows 10 Build 1803, 64 Bit, and, in the process, updating iTunes to the Windows app version, I was quite frustrated to learn that almost all of the newer versions of iTunes (after about 12.5, including the app on the Windows Store) will not connect with my iPod 1G. %#*@ shame as the iPod continues to work very reliably. I tried several versions of iTunes and a variety of drivers and other diagnostics. Nothing helped - until I found iTunes 12.2.2 at https://itunes-64-bits.en.uptodown.com/w.... I installed that version (run the downloaded install file As Administrator), and presto! My iPod connected and was fully functional. Yay!!

I tried a lot of different approaches but this is what finally worked for me. I hope it is of some help tom others."
