R4 card works in my sons DSI but not my Daughters?

I have updated my r4 card( v1.4.4) to r4i v1.80b which works perfectly on my daughters dsi, However I purchased a 'used' dsi for my son and the same card doesn't work n his? it come up with a black screen saying the following,

"This is so old that I doubt you’ll respond or still have this problem, but now an R4 card is useless. A new DSI exploit called memory pit allows you to install TwilightMeNU++ and other hacks via just an SD card.
