water in camera-display works only with memory card

My canon was dunked in a pond-after taking out the battery and drying it out for a week-the camera seems to function except the lcd only displays pics previously stored in memory and the camera acts and sounds as if it is taking a picture-but it is stored as black screen on review. (and of course no display while taking the pic) What might be damaged?

allison, this could be a stuck shutter which is a common failure mode for digital cameras. The symptoms of a stuck or "sticky" shutter are very similar to CCD image sensor failure. The camera may take black pictures for shutter stuck closed. "To confirm a stuck shutter, put the camera in any mode other than "Auto", and turn the flash OFF. Next look down the lens and take a picture. You should see a tiny flicker in the center of the lens as the shutter opens and closes. If no movement is seen, then you likely have a stuck shutter." There is a fix for that on here. Otherwise I would think that it is your CCD image sensor that was damaged. In that case you will have to disassemble your camera and clean it of any debris and corrosion and replace the CCD image sensor. So, give it a try and see what happens. Good luck.
