"I have tried all of the above and the problem of not being able connect to the ipod touch continues.

In addition I have contacted Apple's tech help and I did whatever they suggested. These are

(1) to do a hard reset (by pressing the home button and the button at the top simultaneously for 5 seconds)

(2) re-install itunes in my computer

(3) connect the ipod to the computer with another chord or cable

(4) re-start my computer

(5) connect the ipod to another USB port

In two days I am taking to a store here. If there is a solution I will post it here.

Till about a month or so when the new itunes came on, the device was working well. The version I am running now is 12.3.2.

If the new version of itunes is not able to connect to the old ipod touch. Apple, then, should not ask us to upgrade or they should make the old version available."

Something like this would be great for me. I have a first generation iTouch and it has my Dad’s engravings on it for me (he got it for me as a present years ago when the first generation phone and itouch came out back in 2008ish?) and he recently passed away so it would be nice to just keep using it.

"Apple is not supporting the earlier models of iPhone with the later versions of iTunes.

iTunes provided this error message ""iTunes could not connect to the iPod touch because an invalid response was received from the device."" using my Generation 1 iPhone (2007) and iTunes version 12.6.0.100

There are two solutions for this, either find an Apple computer running an earlier version of iTunes, or find a PC version of iTunes that is earlier than version 12.

I found iTunes Version 8.0.2.20 for the PC (64bit) and that worked fine on my Win8.1 PC.

Caution - If you try to reload iPhone firmware holding down the power plus home button, and keeping the home button pressed, but you dont have a working iTunes - you risk ""bricking"" the iPhone until you can reload the firmware with an older version of iTunes.

The FileHorse website provides many older versions of iTunes for the PC."

The first generation iPod software is just too outdated and is no longer supported by newer versions of iTunes. There is no fixing this on a newer computer. I would have to recommend that you just buy the newest iPod so it'll last you longer.
